Why is it called a "Dime"?
The Latin word for "one-tenth" is "decimus".
In the 1500s the idea of money being divided into tenths was developed and the French used the word "disme"; America dropped the "s" from the word, hence "dime".

THE FASCES SYMBOL
The Fasces symbol is a bundle of sticks with a central Ax and can be found on the handle of the Torch.
The individual sticks represent the satellite nations of an empire, in the case of the United States of America the sticks represent the 50 states. The Ax represents the Empire or central authority (the Federal Government) that rules over the satellite nations with the threat of violence. The Fasces symbol is where "Fascism" gets it name - "Fascism" being Totalitarianism (The absolute control of the State). |
